Forty Days of Service during Lent
Throughout Lent we will collect items for our teacher appreciation event at Highland Renaissance Academy. Please bring any of the following items to the collection boxes in the Rec. Wing or the office area of the sanctuary building by Tuesday, April 1.
  • Post-It notes 
  • $5 Starbucks gift cards
  • Red pens; black pens 
  • Cliff bars or other breakfast bars
  • Mechanical pencils 
  • Packages of printing paper
  • Stickers for children’s pencils 
  • Dove chocolates

Saturday, March 8; 2nd Saturday service event
Friendship Gardens
2401 Distribution Street; 10:00 am – 12:00 n
“Second Saturday” is Covenant’s new, intergenerational, monthly service event, taking place on the second Saturday of every month. This month’s event takes place at Friendship Gardens. Find out what it means to be present through the spiritual practice of gardening; wear your gardening clothes.

Thursday, March 20
Dinner for the Urban Plunge mission project
Covenant kitchen; 5:30 pm or
bring part of the meal to share
Serve dinner to the young adults participating in the young adult Urban Plunge. Practice sabbath, and the rhythms of work and rest, through this service opportunity. For more information contact Petra Wahnefried (704-804-7574; petra.wahnefried@covenantpresby.org).

Note: The Urban Plunge (young adults ages 21 - 35) takes place Thursday - Sunday, March 20 - 23. Participants stay in Charlotte and volunteer with a wide array of non-profit agencies in the area, including: Friendship Trays, Center for Community Transition, Highland Renaissance Academy, Men’s Shelter, and more. Hear a presentation about the sex trafficking industry in Charlotte. Enjoy fellowship time together at Camp Thunderbird. Cost for the weekend is $100 (financial assistance available). Tuesday, March 25
Reading at Highland Renaissance Academy
125 W. Craighead Road
Read to the children at Highland Academy through the program Read, Roar, Soar. Opportunities to serve at 11:30 and 1:15. Listen to stories by reading to the children; then connect that to the practice of listening to scripture by joining Petra Wahnefried at Amelie’s (NoDa) for 30 minutes of Lectio Divina.

Wednesday, April 2
Teacher Appreciation Event; 5:30 - 7:00 pm
Show gratitude for the teachers at Highland Academy. School supplies will be collected throughout Lent (see list on prior page), and baskets will be assembled during Covenant Connection. Assemble baskets, write a thank you note, and learn more about the spiritual practice of gratitude. Help deliver the baskets on Thursday, April 3.

April 12; 2nd Saturday service event
Fellowship Hall; 10:00 - 11:30 am
Make origami doves of peace for the Pentecost worship service (see below), and a welcome banner for use when we entertain our guests from the Holy Land. Learn a new craft while helping to promote peace in our city and in the world.

  • A project for all ages; instructions provided; attend any or all sessions
  • Completed doves will be used as part of the Pentecost celebration around the Covenant campus

Walk to Bethlehem
March 10 – April 14
In May, nine of Covenant’s college students, along with four Queens University students, will make the 6,226 mile journey to Bethlehem to seek an understanding of peace and hope in that complex place. Walk in solidarity with these students as they embark on this life-changing trip. Track your mileage as you walk, run, swim, bike, or row, and report your mileage to the Rec. Forty Days of Prayer in the Chapel
You are invited to spend time in personal prayer in Covenant’s Morrison Chapel throughout this Lenten season. Hospitality hosts will welcome you to a space free of expectation – a space to pause, to meditate, just to “be.” A prayer booklet will be available for your use. Mondays through Thursdays, March 10 - April 10; 7:00 - 9:00 am  |  11:00 am - 1:00 pm  |  5:00 - 7:00 pm.
